Servants of Christ

The Advent season is upon us! Please take a quick read of my sermon from worship this Sunday. Consider these questions?
  • What does it mean to you to be faithful?
  • Should we "care very little" about what others think about our faith?
  • How would you explain the "secret things of God" to a friend who didn't know Jesus?
  • Your comments or questions...

As a former ELCA Lutheran I would say that the best thing we can do to be faithful is for us to live out our faith so others may see Christ. Not to say that they will always see Christ in us but that actions speak louder than words. Too many christians use slogans and christian bumper stickers but when you look at their lives you do not see christ. The best witness is for us as christians to do our best to show christ to a hurting world.
The church today has all to often become a place of nothing more than a social gathering for people to check out each others clothes and cars. The church must also change if it wants to be faithful as well. A building is only a building but a soul is eternal. I have so many friends that will not go to church because all of the christians they know say one thing but do another. So we as individuals and as a church must either live what we preach or not preach at all.

I agree with your comments about showing Christ to a hurting world. It is vital that we follow up our words with our actions. May our faith never be hollow.

I too have friends that will not go to church because of someone saying something mean to them or maybe they were offended once. This can be an excuse to take the spotlight off themselves (their sin, guilt, anger at God) and put it on someone else.

May God give you the wisdom and opportunity to witness your faith.
